UNEVEN PIGMENTATION, FACIAL REDNESS, RESURFACING LASER TREATMENTS
The Palomar Rejuvelux™ Pulsed Light Photo-Rejuvenation offers comfortable and effective treatment of sun damage, rosacea, age spots or hyper-pigmentation, and facial spider veins.  In addition to these benefits, it is a very effective method to resurface and rehydrate the skin surface while stimulating superficial collagen to tighten pore appearance and get that youthful glow.

What is a Photo-Rejuvenation?

Photo-Rejuvenation is one of the newest techniques for skin rejuvenation. Photo-Rejuvenation utilizes light to treat different aspects of the skin. Photo-Rejuvenation can improve broken blood vessels, ruddiness, and rosacea.  Additionally, discolorations of the skin such as sun spots and melasma can be effectively treated. One of the most exciting aspects of this treatment is that it can be used as a "sub-surface resurfacing" technique.  New collagen in the skin is generated with repeat treatments.  Fine lines, large pores and scars can be improved. For some, even moderate wrinkles will soften.

What are the advantages?

The advantage to Photo-Rejuvenation is that there is no "down-time."  The skin may be slightly pink when you leave, which is easily concealed with makeup.  The pinkness will resolve over several hours. There is a slight risk of a scab or a bruise resulting from the treatment, but this should resolve over 7-10 days.

How does Photo-Rejuvenation work?

The Palomar RejuveLux hand piece emits pulses of light into the skin.  The light is absorbed by the pigment in sun spots and the blood in visible vessels, and converted to heat.  The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels.

What does it feel like?

The treatment provider will move the hand piece over the patient's skin, pulsing it all the while.  Each pulse will send a beam of light through the skin.  A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will let the patient know when the hand piece is being pulsed.

How many treatments will I need?

Our new Intense Pulsed Light Photo-Rejuvenation system is designed to combat the effects of sun and aging in a softer and gentler way.  Using our advanced IPL system, light energy is delivered through the skin removing facial redness, erasing pigmented spots, reducing pore size and minimizing fine lines.  A series of three to six photo facial treatments are given at 2—3 week intervals.  Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve complete clearance of sunspots, rosacea and vessels.

How long does each treatment take?

This procedure takes approximately 20—40 minutes and is associated with only mild discomfort.  Post-treatment, patients may note mild facial pinkness, which may be covered with makeup.  Patients can return to work or resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure.  In addition, this Intense Pulsed Light system can be used to safely treat aging, rosacea, facial spider veins and photo-damaged skin on the face neck, chest, hands, shoulders, scalp.  Other sun damaged skin areas may be treated as well.

When will I notice an improvement in my skin?

After just one or two treatments, you will notice a more even tone to your skin, less pigmentation and a smoother look and feel.  Sun spots will start to fade and pores will become less apparent.  Fine lines and wrinkles will soften over time.  These improvements continue with each treatment.  Patients with acne and rosacea will also see a reduction in facial redness as a result of each treatment.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment, patients can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling.  This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with arnica cream, cold aloe gel or ice packs.  Sunspots will darken after treatment and be naturally shed from the skin within 1 - 2 weeks.  Skin tone will be more normal, with less pronounced redness within one week after treatment. Vessels may disappear after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days.

Who are Photo-Rejuvenation candidates?

The best candidates for this procedure are patients with sun damaged skin, flushed faces secondary to acne, facial blood vessels, pigmented facial spots and enlarged pores.  For further information regarding this new and exciting facial rejuvenation procedure please call for a consultation.
