LASER HAIR REDUCTION

You may be surprised to learn that just about your entire body is covered with hair.  Since most of this hair is fine and pale, it usually is not visible to the naked eye. In fact, the largest number of hair follicles is actually on your forehead.  When darker, coarser hair appears in places we don't like or expect, on the face, neck, abdomen, chest, back or arms or inner thighs, preventing us from wearing a high-cut bathing suit, shorts, or even a short skirt, it may be time to consider permanent hair removal with the next generation laser hair removal systems.
Now there's a more effective solution:   Laser technology specifically designed to remove unwanted hair faster, less painfully, and more reliably than electrolysis.

Overview:

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light.  Only certain types of lasers produce the kind of energy that will permanently disable the hair follicle. The laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle.  The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to permanently eliminate or significantly impede the hair's growth.  Importantly, our Palomar Laser has a special cooling hand piece which directs the laser energy to the hair bulb while protecting and cooling surrounding skin.

What can I expect?

The length of a laser hair reduction session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.  Hair has both an active and dormant growth phase.  Because the hair follicles that are in the active growth phase are more susceptible to the laser light, several treatments every 4-8 weeks will be required for best results.

Summary:

Laser treatment itself may cause a slight stinging sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia is always available.

The appearance of the treated area immediately after the treatment session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the treatment and skin type.  Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor and may include redness and swelling, which disappears in a short time.  Most people return to normal activities right away.

Whatever method of hair removal you are currently using, it is time to re-evaluate your options and look into laser hair reduction.  Laser therapy is gentle, safe, long lasting and non-invasive.  It leaves the skin smoother and silkier. Over a life-time, laser hair reduction is both time efficient and cost efficient.

A series of treatments may take up to a year, but this is a relatively short period of time compared to years and years of shaving, plucking, and waxing. Laser treatments, especially for large areas, are relatively fast and painless and the results are long-lasting. The Starlux System by Palomar is considered the “Gold Standard” for hair removal and allows us to treat the broadest range of skin and hair color possible.  Three to five treatments are required to reach significant, permanent hair reduction, but improvement is seen after the first treatment.  Sessions are usually recommended at six to eight week interval.  Prices are based upon the size of the area to be treated and may be charged on a per-treatment basis or as a package price which offers some substantial savings.
